A New Blessed: Franz Jaggerstatter

Blessed Franz
Some might remember the post here on -- and others know well from elsewhere about -- the story of Franz Jägerstätter, the Austrian husband, father, farmer and sacristan who was killed by the Nazis at 37 for resisting mandatory conscription into the army of the Third Reich.

In June, after decades of Roman study of his cause found it worthy to be deemed martyrdom, Benedict XVI approved Jägerstätter's beatification. And today, on Austria's "National Day," with his widow and 5,000 others in attendance, the liturgy declaring him "Blessed" took place in his hometown of Linz.

Jaegerstaetter, an avowed conscientious objector, was executed outside Berlin on Aug. 9, 1943 for treason after his request to be excused from regular army service for religious reasons was denied. The married father of four was posthumously exonerated in 1997 by a Berlin court.

About 5,000 faithful and 27 crimson-robed cardinals and bishops from Austria and abroad joined Jaegerstaetter's 94-year-old widow, Franziska, at Friday's ceremony in the northwestern city of Linz, which was broadcast live on national television.

"I always prayed to the Lord God that he would let me live to experience this day," she said, surrounded by several dozen family members in a cathedral where a giant black and white portrait of Jaegerstaetter hung over the altar.

Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided over the ceremony for Jaegerstaetter, whom Pope Benedict XVI declared a martyr in June.

The beatification gave Austrians a new opportunity to examine "our own wartime past: the war generation, inhumanity, and the terror of the Nazis," Austrian bishops Ludwig Schwarz and Manfred Scheuer said in a statement.

"He is a shining example in his fidelity to the claims of his conscience — an advocate of nonviolence and peace," they said, praising Jaegerstaetter for standing up to "the inhuman and godless system of Nazism."

"He gave up his life in magnanimous self-denial," the pope wrote in a letter read out by Saraiva Martins.

The beatification was held on Austria's National Day holiday, which marks the anniversary of a 1955 law declaring the country to be neutral.

In its official biography of Jaegerstaetter, the Diocese of Linz says he had a dream in 1938 warning of the horrors of Hitler's regime to come.

"In it, he saw a train carrying innumerable people to perdition, and its meaning was unveiled to him as representing the Nazis," it says.

After World War II, two Franciscan nuns brought an urn containing Jaegerstaetter's ashes back to the province of Upper Austria, where he had long been celebrated as a martyr — meaning he died for the church.
The official short bio of Jägerstätter cited above can be found here in English.

Student Arrested In Newborn's Death Posts Bond

Police: Woman Secretly Gave Birth, Put Baby In Trash Room

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A college student from Indiana who was arrested on suspicion of secretly giving birth and letting the newborn girl die in her dormitory in Louisville this week was released from jail Friday on bond, police said.

Kathryn E. McCoy, 19, who is from Plainfield, Ind., and is a sophomore member of Bellarmine University's women's golf team, was arrested Thursday after being released from University Hospital in Louisville.

Police said McCoy (pictured) tried to hide her pregnancy from relatives and friends, secretly gave birth late Tuesday night in a bathroom in her dormitory at Bellarmine, put the newborn in a bag and placed it in a trash room at the dorm.

Authorities said someone saw McCoy go near the trash room early Wednesday, became suspicious, checked the room and called police. The baby was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m., about 35 minutes after the infant was found, police said.

Police said that when McCoy heard officers were coming to the dormitory, she retrieved the baby from the trash room, placed her into a gym bag and then put the bag in her dorm room. When police arrived, McCoy initially denied giving birth, authorities said.

She later told investigators she gave birth to a girl and an hour later put the baby in a garbage bag, police said.

McCoy told police she let the infant fall into a toilet, causing its death, authorities said.

Gayle Norris, deputy coroner of Jefferson County, Ky., who has not released a cause of death, said McCoy is the baby's mother and that an autopsy revealed the infant was alive and either full term or nearly full term when she was delivered.

McCoy was escorted from her dorm room Wednesday morning and taken to a Louisville hospital. She was arrested Thursday.

Louisville police Lt. Barry Wilkerson said McCoy had a roommate, but the roommate did not know McCoy was pregnant.

"It was never discussed, I guess," Wilkerson said. "They had some suspicion she might be, but they had no actual knowledge."

Police spoke briefly with McCoy's parents Thursday morning. Wilkerson said McCoy has an attorney, but he would not say who it was.

"They made it clear they didn't wish her speaking to us," Wilkerson said.

Detectives have not identified the father and are unsure whether he knew McCoy had the baby, Wilkerson said.

"It's early on," Wilkerson said. "We're going to have to determine if there was even knowledge by him."

McCoy was arrested on charges of murder, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant, police said.

In a letter to all Bellarmine students, faculty and staff about the incident, Bellarmine President Joseph McGowan called the infant's death heartbreaking.

Bellarmine is a Catholic liberal arts college. About 200 students live in McCoy's dormitory, Anniversary Hall, according to university officials.

A Kentucky state law that took effect in 2002 generally allows parents or people acting on their behalf to anonymously drop off newborns they cannot care for at selected "safe" locations, including hospitals or with EMS personnel, police officers or firefighters, without fear of criminal prosecution.

Plainfield High Athletic Director: 'Tragedy For Everyone Involved'

McCoy was a graduate of Plainfield High School. At that school Thursday, staff and students who knew her said they were in disbelief over the accusations.

"I think it's a tragedy for everyone involved," Plainfield High School's athletic director, Dan Williams, told 6News' Rick Hightower.

McCoy was a tennis and golf standout at Plainfield High.

"I can only speak (about) Katie from knowing her here at Plainfield High School. She was an outstanding person and student -- a very, very exemplary student here," Williams said.

Brittany Lane, who knows McCoy, said she is shocked by what happened, but doesn't feel sorry for her.

"I never would have thought she would have done anything like that," Lane said.

The Reality of the Devil

BY Father Andrew McNair, LC

October 28 - November 3, 2007 Issue | Posted 10/23/07 at 11:18 AM

The new millennium marks for many teens and young adults a renewed interest in spirituality.

What type of spirituality? Christian? No. Islamic? No. How about an Eastern spirituality like Taoism? Wrong again.

Try Satanism.

That's right. The occult movement of Satanism ranks number one among teens and young adults as their preferred spirituality.

We could dismiss the ascendancy of Satanism in the United States as a fad of the young; something they will grow out of with time. In others words, it's nothing to worry about.

In my judgment, that's the wrong approach to the spiritual and cultural phenomenon of Satanism. People need to understand that Satanic spirituality leaves deep spiritual and psychological scars on its victims. Christians should know how to recognize and combat satanic spirituality. Where do we begin?

Let's begin by reaffirming a basic truth: Satan exists. His demonic minions exist. Scripture and Tradition depict Satan as the supreme evil leader of the fallen angels who seek to disrupt God's plan of salvation for humanity.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church points out: "Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy. Scripture and the Church's Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called 'Satan' or the 'devil.'" The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: "The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing" (No. 391).

St. Peter the Apostle warns us, "Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour."

Yet despite warnings from Scripture and Tradition about the lure of Satanism, teens and young adults see involvement in Satanic occultism as an acceptable cultural and social option. Why?

Satanic occultism wears the deceptive guise of white magic.

White magic employs the use of occult powers to do good. Black magic, on the other hand, uses occult powers to do evil. The entertainment industry cleverly hammers the notion of white magic in inattentive minds.

Take for example, CBS popular TV program, "Ghost Whisperer." The show tells the story of an attractive young woman that chats with the dead. She uses her occult powers to help the dead finish pending matters with family and friends in this life before helping them cross over to the other side. Viewers can't help but think this a wonderful way to help others. But is it really?

Another very popular CBS TV program called "Moonlight" throws a positive spin on the occult. In this program, a tall imposing vampire works as a private detective to make amends for past crimes he committed as a vampire. He no longer sucks blood from the necks of the innocent. He now keeps a stock of fresh blood in his fridge to quench his thirst. How consoling.

On the literary front, we find an entire plethora of books, magazines and columns that speak highly of the occult. For the last few years, the No. 1 best-selling novel in the United States and abroad narrates a story about a young boy wizard that uses white magic to duel the most powerful and evil wizard ever known.

Millions of youth, worldwide, look up to this courageous wizard as a perfect role model. Can a sorcerer or warlock be a role model?

The overall message of the white magic argument is clear: Magic is not bad in itself. It depends, like many things, on how you use it. In view of this assertion, white magic wins approval and respectability in the minds of many. Here, we need to make an important moral clarification.

The difference often made between white magic and black magic is woefully erroneous. The goodness or badness of an act of witchcraft or magic is not determined by the purpose of its use. Its moral quality comes from its origin.

The origin of all occult powers is the demonic realm. Consequently, all magic involving the use of occult powers is intrinsically evil. The Catechism of the Catholic Church makes this point abundantly clear:

"All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others — even if this were for the sake of restoring their health — are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons" (No. 2116).

The best defense against the lure of Satanic influence is an intense life of grace. In the words of St. Paul, the Church invites us to "Put on the full armor of God so as to be able to resist the devil's tactics."

This will permit us to utter effectively the powerful words of Christ in the hour of temptation, "Get thee behind me, Satan!"

The Latin Mass

The pope's recent authorization of the Tridentine Latin Mass, without the need to seek the local bishop's permission, has stirred some measure of debate within the Roman Catholic Church, especially in letters-to-the-editor and on blogs written by individuals who seem not to have day-jobs.

The overwhelming majority of Catholics, however, are apparently unaware of, or have already forgotten, the July 7 papal letter, entitled Summorum Pontificum (Latin, "Of supreme pontiffs"). Indeed, those who attend Mass regularly would never prefer Mass in a language other than their own.

Those who do claim to prefer the Latin Mass, whether Tridentine or Novus Ordo (that is, in keeping with the reforms of Pope Paul VI), constitute a tiny minority of the Roman Catholic Church, which is not to say that they have no right to speak their minds about the matter or to take advantage of the concessions which the Vatican has offered them.

But if such Catholics are under the ages of 45 or 50, they have little or no hands-on experience of the pre-Vatican II Mass. It is a mystery how one can be nostalgic for something one had never experienced.

In the past three months, liturgical scholars have published articles which carefully pick apart the reasoning behind the papal document that authorizes the use of the Tridentine Latin Mass. (The document is technically known as a motu proprio, in that it is produced by the pope "on his own initiative.") Each critical analysis usually provokes a flurry of indignant reactions from a handful of Latin-Mass advocates.

Again, while no one should question their freedom of speech, not one of them, to my knowledge, has presented a credible justification for their preference. A few substitute ridicule for reasoning.

The challenge to offer a specific, compelling argument for the Latin Mass has just been made more difficult by a witty, down-to-earth article in the October 8 issue of America magazine, written by Emil Wcela, the retired auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Rockville Centre, who also happens to have a degree in Sacred Scripture from Rome's Pontifical Biblical Institute.

Bishop Wcela, however, proceeds neither from biblical evidence nor an exegetical analysis of the papal document, but from common sense and long pastoral experience. One does not have to be a liturgical scholar to understand what he is saying.

Entitled "A Dinosaur Ponders the Latin Mass," the article avoids the scholarly path favored by specialists in liturgical studies. That type of work is absolutely necessary, but it is over the heads of most readers, who do not know a motu proprio from an encyclical --- nor do they care to know.

Unlike many Latin-Mass devotees, Bishop Wcela (who is 76) learned and recited the Latin prayers as an altar boy (all altar servers were boys in those days). There were no sermons at daily Masses, no congregational responses, and few Communions.

He also recalls his years in the seminary where each day began with a Latin Mass. (At my seminary in Boston, there was a second Mass, called a "Thanksgiving Mass," which followed the community Mass. We remained --- always silently --- for only part of it.)

On Sundays and major feasts, a solemn high Mass was sung, complete with priest-celebrant, deacon, subdeacon, and a host of altar servers. The seminarians, however, would never receive Communion at this Mass since they had already done so at the early community Mass.

As a young priest, ordained in 1956, Bishop Wcela knew and celebrated only the Latin Mass, in which the celebrant "proclaimed" the Epistle and Gospel in Latin while facing the back wall. On Sundays, he would also read the Gospel in English from the pulpit, just before the sermon.

While doing graduate work in Rome in the early 1960s, Bishop Wcela and other student-priests celebrated a daily Latin Mass without a congregation, but with a priest-partner. Concelebration had not yet become common.

After teaching in the seminary for several years, he became pastor of a large parish. By 1979, he writes, "Latin had pretty much disappeared, except for some hymns." His parish, however, had the custom of a Latin Mass one Sunday a month --- and in prime time, at 10:30, with full parish choir.

During the summer months, however, the Latin Mass was suspended because of vacation schedules and the influx of visiting priests. "After one of those breaks," Bishop Wcela continues, "I suggested to the other priests an experiment: in the fall, we would not reintroduce it unless people asked for it. The months came and went without a word of interest. So the Latin Mass simply stopped."

More on Bishop Wcela's thoughts next week.

Ad showing 'homosexual' newborn causes stir in Italy

An ad campaign to counter discrimination against gays has stirred up passions in Italy, using a poster that shows a newborn with the word "homosexual" written on his wristband.

"Sexual orientation is not a choice," reads the slogan on the poster that was going up all across the central-northern Tuscany region and was published in national newspapers Wednesday.

"Using newborns to make people believe that homosexual impulses are an innate characteristic is dishonest and a disgrace," said Christian Democratic lawmaker Luca Volonte.

Gay philosopher Gianni Vattimo said the ad was in "bad taste" and that the slogan was "only partly true."

Italy's main gay rights association ArciGay, for its part, praised the initiative, saying homosexuality is an "unchangeable fact that should be respected."

Catholics want Vatican to clean church
Holy Redeemer members tired of drag queen bingo, sexfests

The recent highly publicized photos and video of San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer serving Communion to two flamboyantly dressed members of the anti-Catholic "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" was no happenstance.

And soon the shocking images will be on their way to the Vatican for any Catholic leaders who have not yet seen them.

Two "sisters" at Holy Redeemer church in San Franscico

"I am the gentleman responsible for the filming of the whole thing," Anthony Gonzales, chief of the St. Joseph's Men Society, told WND shortly after the first round of publicity over the photos and video. "I sent one of my men to film this."

Gonzales said he knew the archbishop was going to the parish in the heart of the homosexual street fair to "be part of the celebration of their lifestyle, and we were waiting to see what he was going to do and how he was going to do it."

And the reason?

"We can't even take our children to Mass anymore. We can't even go to our churches," he said. "We finally got to the point, and said, 'Hey, look, we can't take this anymore.'

"We want the Roman Catholic faithful to return, and are sick and tired of having to deal with men who are faithless, who are our leaders," Gonzales said. "They come into positions of power because of other homosexuals, or at least are promoting them into positions of power.

"We want to keep the fires burning. This guy has to know he can't continue to get away with his actions. He's played dumb before," he said. "He says, 'I guess I made a mistake.' So he always makes these mistakes!

"He says he didn't recognize two gay men dressed in drag coming up to receive Communion in clown makeup!" Gonzales exclaimed.

The incident was publicized with the men's group video on the Catholic blogsite Quamdiu Domine.

The archbishop, in a diocese newspaper editorial, apologized for serving the two "Sisters," explaining he didn't recognize who they were.

He described the Oct. 7 event as routine.

"The congregation was devout, and the liturgy was celebrated with reverence. I noticed no demonstration, no protest, no disruption of the Eucharist," he wrote.

"At Communion time, toward the end of the line, two strangely dressed persons came to receive Communion. As I recall one of them wore a large flowered hat or garland. I did not recognize either of them as wearing mock religious garb," he said.

"Afterward it was made clear to me that these two people were members of the organization 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,' who have long made a practice of mocking the Catholic Church in general and religious women in particular," he said.

"Although I had often seen photographs of members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, I had never encountered them in person until October 7th. I did not recognize who these people were when they approached me. After the event, I realized that they were members of this particular organization and that giving them Holy Communion had been a mistake. I apologize to the Catholics of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and to Catholics at large for doing so," he said.

But Gonzales and several other activists who contacted WND said such "incidents" long have been occurring at the church, and it's likely that the archbishop knew about them. So now is time for action, they told WND.

"We are going to be submitting all of this information to Rome, getting it into the right hands," Gonzales said. "I believe that he is constantly a proponent of homosexuals."

Archdiocese spokesman Maurice Healy told WND that Niederauer does not know the membership of that particular church.

"There's a lot of people who are upset. I think we're equally upset," he said. But the archbishop has a policy of reaching out to "those people."

Gonzales disagreed.

"They don't reach out to that community to call for repentance and healing and their reconciliation with Christ. They say, 'This is your lifestyle and we are here to give you approbation.'"

Gonzales, a theologian, said a compilation of documentation will be forwarded to Rome within the next few days.

"We're also composing a letter to Neiderauer asking him to excommunicate the group, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, so that this mistake cannot happen again. And we're asking him to excommunicate (San Francisco Mayor)Gavin Newsom and (U.S. House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi for not adhering to Catholic doctrine on same-sex relationships and abortion."

The incident with the "Sisters" was just the final straw, Gonzales said. He said just last fall the pastor of Holy Redeemer gave the "Sisters" permission to run a bingo operation at the church hall. Healy said the archdiocese wasn't aware of what was going on, and when it found out, it ordered it stopped.

But other activists told WND they have been notifying the church archdiocese of their objections to such issues regularly. One such case was a recent "Drag Queen Calendar Nite" at the church. Those who objected notified the church office of their concerns before the event but apparently were ignored since it was held anyway.

"I had hoped that after the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence's obscene and perverted monthly bingo nights (supplying male sex toys for prizes) had been stopped that this type of activity was no longer going to be a problem there. Obviously not," one wrote in an e-mail to the church.

On the Catholic Blog, participants listed some of the documentation being prepared for Rome's attention.

The information includes a video advertisement for the "Sisters' Revival Bingo," where one winner boasts of getting "more gay porn than most young boys have" and organizers boast of "spanking" participants.

Also assembled was documentation from Americans for Truth about the church's repeated sponsorship of booths and other entries in the various San Francisco "gay" festivals, such as the recent Folsom Street Fair, on which WND reported.

Niederauer also said he's pleased the activists cited his opinion that the "gay"-themed "Brokeback Mountain" is "very powerful" and his endorsement of a plan to have Catholic adoption agencies refer babies for adoption by homosexuals.

The activists also cite X-rated YouTube videos that feature the same "Sisters" who organized the drag queen event. One of the less offensive has one of the bingo organizers, named "Heklina," singing about "taking a young handsome boy out for luncheon…"

One activist who requested anonymity wrote: "The [archbishop] issued an apology, but, if he's sincere about it, he'll issue a press release to publicly excommunicate the organization and the members, so that no priest or pastor in his diocese has any trouble deciding what to do."

Allyson Smith, an analyst for Americans for Truth, noted the Catholic Church believes Communion involves the actual "body and blood of Jesus Christ," and such participation by the "twisted 'sisters'" is offensive to many.

Her opinions were echoed abundantly on a response section to the California Catholic News story about the situation:

-"May God have mercy on his soul."

-"We need to bulldoze to the ground every Catholic Church in S.F. and send these left handed Catholics to the Masonic lodge where they truly belong. Let Satan put up with them."

-"Blasphemy."

-"You could say the Archbishop has a 'wide stance' toward perversion-enthusiasts in the church."

Pope John Paul II: video features digitally enhanced recordings of John Paul II's voice alongside 'trance-like drum grooves' and 'trippy' images

The Vatican's record label is orchestrating an online campaign to push a DVD celebrating the life of the late Pope John Paul II to move public opinion in favour of canonising him, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.

The release of the DVD, which is being produced by St Paul Multimedia, the Vatican's record label, will be accompanied by a website, www.santosubitoonline.com, on which the faithful will be encouraged to register their support for his sainthood.

Santo Subito means "Make him a saint quickly" - the phrase featured on banners held by Catholics who streamed into St Peter's Square after his death in April 2005 - and the online campaign is a first in the history of the church.

While the current Pope, Benedict XVI, has already fast-tracked John Paul's path to sainthood when he waived the normal five-year waiting period in the beatification process, the Vatican hopes a groundswell of support for the new DVD will push the process on.

"Three hundred years ago the Vatican used to make people a saint if people stood up and shouted for it and they want to resurrect this idea of canonisation by acclamation," said a Vatican source. "What better way to do it than by a music film like this and using the internet to push his canonisation?"

The DVD and online campaign are aimed at appealing directly to the young and the choice of British composer Simon Boswell was also a factor, according to Vatican sources.

His work features digitally enhanced recordings of John Paul II's voice alongside "trance-like drum grooves" and "trippy" images of the late Pontiff.

It is also a first for the Vatican because it has allowed Boswell to work musically with the Pope's voice, which is the copyright of the church, in some case altering its rhythms.

"The images, celebrating many moments from his life, have been digitally enhanced and are quite cutting edge," said Boswell, the composer of innovative soundtracks for films such as Hardware, Shallow Grave and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

On the DVD John Paul II is heard singing on at least two tracks. In one section he is heard recalling Isaiah's cry to "Go up on a high mountain" and to "Shout without fear" accompanied by images of the Pope not out of place in a rave video and also the kind of music not normally associated with the Catholic liturgy.

In another section of the DVD, John Paul's visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp is accompanied by a piece for solo guitar and strings and featuring his cry, "No more war".

The Pope DVD is released worldwide next month by Universal Video. Record company insiders say they hope to sell many millions of copies.

"They are marketing the Pope with the same verve that they would market any popular artist," one insider said.

The DVD release is also expected to be followed by a series of stadium concerts around the world, involving a full orchestra conducted by Boswell and featuring John Paul II as a virtual presence on a large screen. The first concert will be held in Milan near the city's cathedral.

Although the Vatican has publicly referred to the "exceptional circumstances" of John Paul II's possible sainthood - thought to be a direct reference to the people's cries of "Santo Subito" - the process is a slow one.

His case is still being assessed by a scrutiny committee of lay, clerical, and episcopal members of the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints. This committee is conducting its own investigation, which includes assessing various contentious claims that John Paul II was responsible for miracles.

It is also thought that the process could be slowed by some opposition. Recently eleven dissident theologians, including Jesuit professor Jose Maria Castillo and Italian theologian Giovanni Franzoni, raised seven points of opposition which include the late Pope's stance on contraception and the role of women in the church.

Oklahoma Lawmakers Refuse "Gift" Of Quran

Oklahoma legislator turns down Quran gift, says Islamic text promotes violence
Jim Brown
OneNewsNow.com
October 26, 2007

An Oklahoma lawmaker has refused to accept a Quran from the Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council, saying "most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."
A Muslim chairwoman with the Governor's Council had sent out an email to state legislators, notifying them they would be receiving a complimentary copy of the "Oklahoma Centennial Quran." The email claimed that the Quran "is the record of the exact words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad," and that the Islamic religious book "emphasizes inclusiveness and encourages involvement in the community."

Republican state representative Rex Duncan asked that his name be removed from the list of legislators receiving the gift.

"She stated in her email that there were 30,000 to 50,000 Muslims in Oklahoma, and my concern was that not very many of them are speaking out publicly against the practice of terrorism and the threat of terrorism in furtherance of the religion," states Duncan. "And I frankly had a couple of objections. I objected to the use of the state's centennial seal on the Quran; I objected to the use of what I characterize as spin in conjunction with the gift."

Duncan says he was merely trying to get across the point that in the 21st century, no one is using the Bible as an instruction manual to justify the killing of innocent women and children. According to the Tulsa World, this past spring the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma distributed copies of a centennial Bible, of which Duncan was pleased to receive. The newspaper also reports that at least 16 other state lawmakers have now joined Duncan in refusing the copy of the Quran from the Governor's Council.
