Norway: Lutheran Church opens the door to gay ordinations Posted: Sat Nov 17, 2007 9:26 am (GMT -5) radiovm.com, Montreal 2007-11-17 Source apic/ag/arch/bb/pr Norway: Lutheran Church opens the door to gay ordinations It will now be possible to order homosexuals to the priesthood in the Lutheran Church of Norway. The proposal was adopted on November 16 through 50 of the 84 representatives of the General Synod. The new text replaces the one in force, which prohibits the appointment and the ordination of homosexuals "active" as pastors, deacons, vicars and singers. In fact, observers point out, homosexuals were ordained without their bishop would suffer penalties. The bishops could already order homosexuals without having to fear disciplinary action and a handful of shepherds living in partnership with members of the same sex now officiate in the Church. The majority of the 11 bishops of the Lutheran Church in this country is considered to have a liberal position openly on the topic. An opening frowned upon by conservative circles, which have increased the shares before the vote. Many dioceses have already priests and deacons living in a homosexual partnership, some bishops who chose not to comply with the current policy of the Church. _________________ http://www.geocities.com/demographic_crash |
