Cardinal Castrillon: SSPX not in schism

The current attitude of Vatican regarding the status of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) has significantly changed over the years and this is good.

In the Philippines certain prelates are either misinformed or ignorant regarding the status of SSPX. They would rather avoid it like the plague and urge their faithful not to attend their masses as they are schismatic and that sacraments received from the SSPX are not valid.

Everybody's hope is now turned towards the upcoming Motu Propio of Pope Benedict XVI regarding the wider celebration of the Tridentine Mass.

I hope it will spawn interest for the Traditional Mass and become the turning point towards the restoration of the Catholic Church.

Darío Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos has repeatedly affirmed that the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) is not a case of formal schism on at least five separate occasions in public interviews, as recently as March 17 and over the past 2-1/2 years. Msgr. Camille Perl, long-time secretary for the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei (PCED), has repeatedly affirmed in personal letters that such Catholics incur no penalty and no sin for merely fulfilling one's Sunday obligation at a church or chapel served by the SSPX.
